META TAGS
What are META-tags? META-tags are used by search engines to allow them to more accurately list your site in their indexes. When used correctly, you have some control as to how some spiders will display your web page in their search engines. Each search engine uses the META-tags information slightly differently; therefore you should not rely solely on hoping META-tags will get your site indexed correctly. I run across designers and website owners who say, “I have my META-tags . . . . . Why am I still not coming up in the search engines?” Well, the bottom-line is that META-tags are only a part of the whole solution and you need to have other factors to rank well.
You should place your META-tags into the "head" area of your web pages AFTER the page title. META information is used to communicate information to the search engines. META-tags, for example, help tell a browser what the page is about or what keywords you are trying to target.
There are four major META-tags that you will want to use and a variety of optional ones that you can add as well. We cover all these and more in our SEO EBook. Get your copy today.
