Theme Linking
Themed linking centers on building your inbound links within a general industry or topic. This is important because some search engines can "understand" the theme of related web pages. These search engines weight links from themed sites with more value than links from non-themed sites.
When building your link popularity consider starting with websites that have similar or indirect content. A website that centers on grapes should consider linking with agriculture, produce, vineyards, or grape distributor sites to improve its link popularity.
You can think of inbound links or back links as a form of voting. If site A has a link to site B, site B gets a vote from site A. The more votes (links) B gets, the more link-popularity B gains and its popularity grows.
The cool thing is that each website that votes (has outbound links) usually has a number of voters (links) linking to them which creates a cross link between websites. If this cross link between sites is themed, search engines can assume you are important among other websites in your industry.
